9/11 Remembrance Ceremony In Manhattan On Thursday: What To Know

A number of Manhattan streets will be shut down on Thursday during the ceremony.

NEW YORK CITY — Thursday will mark the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, as well as the crash of United Airlines Flight 93.

The 9/11 Memorial & Museum will hold a ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial Plaza beginning at 8:30 a.m. where the names of all 2,977 victims will be read aloud by victims’ family members.

There will be moments of silence throughout the ceremony to mark when both World Trade Center towers were struck and fell, as well as when the Pentagon was attacked and when Flight 93 crashed.

  • Areas bounded by Barclay Street (north side), Rector Street (south side), Broadway (east side) and West Street (west side)
  • Liberty Street between West Street and South End Avenue
  • Albany Street between West Street and South End Avenue
  • West Thames Street between West Street and South End Avenue
  • South End Avenue between Liberty Street and West Thames Street
  • Battery Place between West Thames Street and 3rd Place
  • 3rd Place between Battery Place and Little West Street
  • Little West Street between 3rd Place and Battery Place

Subway service on Thursday:

No. 1 subway trains will skip the World Trade Center Cortlandt station in both directions from 5:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.
