- In recognition of Juneteenth, Governor Kathy Hochul signed the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act of New York into law on Monday at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn. The package of laws will make it easier for individuals to bring lawsuits at the state level in cases of voter suppression. (Politics NY)
- Early voting in the June 28 primary election for governor, lieutenant governor, and state assembly began on Saturday. Here's how some of the civically engaged New Yorkers voted. (Gothamist)
- Governor Hochul recently signed a law that's supposed to ban the sale of bullet-proof vests in New York. However, the law's wording has left many confused, and importantly would not have stopped the purchase of the body armor worn by the gunman who fatally shot ten people in a Buffalo supermarket. (WABC-TV)
- In an interview Mayor Adams defended his announcement on Friday that he would split up police officers while on patrol. The announcement, which received heavy pushback from the Police Benevolent Association, was not intended to be a "blanket" policy, he clarified. (Gothamist)
