Here are the top five stories in New York City today:

  1. Two malls in The Bronx and Brooklyn went under lockdown on Saturday due to false active shooter scares, causing mass-panic. In both cases the culprit was loud fireworks. (NBC New York)
  2. With the State legislative session over, Mayor Adams is celebrating his accomplishments, such as passing a bill that he hopes will help fund repairs for 25,000 NYCHA public housing apartments. He's opposed to other bills passed in Albany, including a reduction in school class size. (Gothamist)
  3. A helicopter on its way to pick up charter passengers crashed in New Jersey on Saturday, seriously injuring its pilot. The same company also operates tours in New York City. As Patch previously reported, newly introduced legislation in the State Legislature aims at cutting back on helicopter traffic over the city by targeting noise pollution. (New York Daily News)
  4. And now for the latest from Broadway. The fairy tale musical "Into the Woods" is making an eight-week comeback this summer, while a new satyrical play about a theater group attempting to create a culturally sensitive Thanksgiving children's pageant will debut next spring. This fall look out for “Almost Famous,” the adaptation of a 2000’s movie about a journalist following a rock band on the road. (amNY)
  5. The Yankees announced last week that, given recent mass-shootings in Uvalde, Texas and Buffalo, they would be using their platform to promote awareness about gun violence. However, the team has been notably absent about gun violence in their own hometown – The Bronx – notes Patch reporter Colin Miner in a recent column. (New York City Patch)
