  1. A new bill signed into law by New York City Mayor Eric Adams will provide free kits of Narcan — a drug that reverses opioid overdoses — to the city's nightlife establishments. New York City saw 1,956 overdose deaths in the first three quarters of 2021, according to data. (New York City Patch)
  2. Workers at Oddly Enough, a queer bar in Brooklyn, have filed for a union election. The union would be call the Brotherhood of Oddly Enough Workers, representing nine employees. (New York City Patch)
  3. Mayor Eric Adams released his tax returns this week, in a reversal from his previous assertion to the media that he would simply release "tax information." The returns showed a total income last year of $245,324, including his salary as Brooklyn borough president, pension, and rental income. He included his legal residence as Brooklyn. (Gothamist)
  4. NYC Jails Commissioner Louis Molina has asked to expand solitary confinement to 17 hours per day, up from the current 10, for some detainees. This comes weeks after the City Council held a hearing for a bill that would ban solitary confinement completely. Meanwhile, as The New York Daily News reports, Comptroller Brad Lander came out in favor of a federal receiver for the city's jails on Thursday. (THE CITY)
  5. Newly arrived asylum seekers in New York City have described a "violent and chaotic" atmosphere in the city's shelter system, leading some to seek refuge elsewhere through the help of mutual aid organizations and faith groups. (Documented NY)
