Patch rounded up some of the best pies to eat around the city for National Pizza Day.

NEW YORK, NY — New York City was home to the first pizzeria in the country, so there's no better place to celebrate National Pizza Day.

To mark the Feb. 9 celebration, Patch rounded up some of the best spots to grab a slice in all five-boroughs.

Almost every list of the best pies in the city includes the old-school slice joint Di Fara at 1424 Avenue J. The spot, which has been open since 1964, is known for a long wait that's worth it for their classic slice. Chefs told Bloomberg the handmade pizza is "the platonic ideal of a NYC pie."

NY Pizza Suprema — Midtown, Manhattan

The 413 Eighth Ave. spot near Madison Square Garden boasts it has the best slice in the city with a huge sign outside, but it can back up the claim. Colin Atrophy Hagendorf, who ate at every pizzeria in Manhattan for his blog the Slice Harvester, rated Pizza Suprema the best slice in the borough. "This slice is GREAT and if you are a connoisseur of simple street pizza, it is worth going out of your way to try it out," he wrote.

Basil Brick Oven Pizza — Astoria, Queens

The 28-17 Astoria Blvd. spot only opened in 2011 by Naples native Ugo Mattei but the pie only eatery already received high marks. AM New York rated it as one of the best spots in the borough for its huge selection of personal pies, especially the basil pizza with pesto sauce, mozzarella, potatoes and more.

Denino's — Port Richmond, Staten Island

This 524 Port Richmond Ave. spot tucked away in the forgotten borough originally opened in 1937 and has topped many best pizzeria lists since. The eatery is known for its thin crust pies with its M.O.R., meatballs, onions and ricotta, as a favorite. The Staten Island spot was named one of the best in the borough by Thrillist and Grub Street said it had one of the best calm pies in the city.

Louie & Ernie's Pizza — Pelham Bay, The Bronx

This tiny Bronx staple at 1300 Crosby Ave. opened in 1959 and was called one of the best slices in the city by the New York Times. The spot's famous for its sausage pies which Serious Eats wrote would "haunt your dreams."
