Bicyclist Killed, Run Over By Box Truck In Manhattan: NYPD

NEW YORK CITY — A 44-year-old bicyclist was killed after being "doored" by a van and then run over by a box truck in Lower Manhattan on Thursday, police announced.

Georgios Smaragdis was traveling westbound on Broome Street around 10:13 a.m., when he collided with the open door of the Mercedes-Benz van and then fell into the roadway, police said.

A box truck traveling westbound on Broome Street proceeded to run over the bicyclist who was lying on the roadway.

Both drivers remained at the scene. It is not yet clear if either of the drivers will be charged in connection to the incident.

There have been no arrests at this time, and an investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad.
