Booze Returns To Staten Island Ferry This Fall

Wanted: a vendor to sell "ferry beers" and other refreshments on the boat for the first time since COVID.

NEW YORK CITY — A boozy bon voyage is coming back to the Staten Island Ferry this fall.

Alcohol and other refreshment sales soon will return to the ferry for the first time since the coronavirus struck, city officials said Tuesday.

"For nearly four years, Staten Islanders and the millions who ride the world-famous Staten Island Ferry have been unable to buy a snack, a drink, or an iconic 'Ferry Beer' when the onboard concessions closed," said Richmond County District Attorney Michael McMahon, in a statement.

"Walking past empty concession stands, particularly the brand new, never used spaces on Ollis-class boats has long-begged the question: 'When will they come back?'"

Here's when, according to a City Hall release: sometime this fall.

But before then, the city and the New York City Economic Development Corporation needs to find a refreshment vendor.

City officials posted a request for proposals to end the ferry's alcohol — and food and other drinks — dry spell.

Prospective vendors have until March 7 to apply.

"NYCEDC is thrilled to work with DOT to bring back concessions onboard and look forward to choosing an operator so that all riders have the best possible experience taking in the New York City skyline," said Andrew Kimball, the corporation's president and CEO, in a statement.
