Boy, 15, Shot Dead Outside NYCHA Housing: NYPD

BROOKLYN, NY — A teenager shot dead in a NYCHA development in Brooklyn is the city's second reported murder victim in 2024, police said.

Javel Lawton, 15, suffered a fatal gunshot late Tuesday in a shooting outside Bay View Houses off 102nd Street in Canarsie, authorities said.

NYPD officers had responded to a 911 call of someone shot about 9 p.m., police said.

They arrived to find Lawton with a gunshot wound to his torso, officials said.

Medics rushed Lawton to NYC Health + Hospitals/Brookdale, where doctors pronounced him dead, authorities said.

The shooter remains on the loose, police said.

Lawton's homicide death is the city's second murder in 2024, after the stabbing slaying of Tsering Wangdu, 29, outside a Queens bar early New Year's Day.
