Cop Fatally Shoots Man At Bronx Halfway House: NYPD
The 32-year-old charged at two cops with a knife and a wooden stick Sunday night, police said.
THE BRONX, NY — A cop fatally shot a man who charged at a pair of officers while armed with a knife and a wooden stick in a Bronx halfway house Sunday night, police said.
The NYPD got two 911 calls at about 10:50 p.m. that someone was threatening tenants and banging on doors at the Hill House on Grand Avenue in Morris Heights, police said.
The two uniformed officers who went to the building encountered 32-year-old Kawaski Trawick in his fourth-floor apartment holding a large kitchen knife and what looked like a broom handle wrapped in black tape, according to police.

One cop shot Trawick with a Taser when he did not obey their commands to drop the weapons, Chief of Department Terence Monahan said. Trawick charged at them with his weapons again as they moved in to take him into custody, Monahan said.
Trawick continued to pursue the cops when they exited the apartment and one officer fired four bullets, striking Trawick in the chest, Monahan said. Trawick was taken to Bronx Lebanon Hospital and pronounced dead there, police said.

Before police arrived, the FDNY had gone to the building because Trawick called saying his apartment was on fire and his door was locked, according to Monahan. The Fire Department personnel left after forcing the door open and determining the apartment was not on fire, the chief said.
A body camera captured footage of the shooting, Monahan said. The NYPD also released a photo of the weapons Trawick allegedly wielded.
