An altercation on Wednesday left one man dead and an NYPD officer injured, while the price of energy in the city is on the rise, and the 92nd Street Y is planning for a major renovation and rebranding.   1. A homeless man was shot dead and and NYPD officer was injured during an altercation around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning in The Bronx. Mayor Adams praised the officer's bravery at a press conference, while calling for a rollback of some bail reforms. (New York City Patch)
  2. All but one of MTA’s train yards were behind on their fire pump inspections since at least 2020, according to a watchdog's report. That news led the agency to conduct a whirlwind of inspections over the past three weeks. (New York City Patch)
  3. The cost of energy has spiked 20 percent in New York City since last year amid rising inflation levels, a new study finds. The price of meat, poultry, fish and eggs has also increased 13.2 percent. (New York City Patch)
  4. Criminal justice advocates and formerly incarcerated people descended on Albany this week to encourage the passing of a state bill that would make it easier to grant parole to people over 55 who have been in prison for at least 15 years. (Gothamist)
  5. A fire broke out on Wednesday morning at one building in the massive LeFrak City apartment complex in Queens, leaving four people injured. The blaze's cause is under investigation. (New York City Patch)

  1. A fully-clothed man was found floating in the East River near Astoria on Wednesday morning. He was pronounced dead on the scene. (New York City Patch)
  2. The suspected killer of an NYPD civilian worker earlier this week died on Wednesday by suicide in his Williamsburg home. (New York City Patch)
  3. Authorities now believe that one company, Nevada-based Polymer80, is responsible for 90 percent of unmarked "ghost guns" on New York City's streets. (New York City Patch)

  • Crisis averted — for now. A judge declined on Wednesday to toss out New York's newly redrawn Assembly redistricting maps. The primary is set for June 28. (U.S. News & World Report)
  • Mayor Adams threw the first pitch at Tuesday night's Yankees game. They beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5 to 3, and again on Wednesday in their third straight victory. (Instagram)
