Here are the top five stories today in New York City:
- Police have arrested Frank James, 62, the suspect accused of causing mass panic after opening fire in a Brooklyn Subway car, injuring at least 23 people. James will be tried on federal terror charges, and could face up to life in prison. His arrest took place after Zack Dahnan, a 21-year old security camera installer, spotted James in The East Village, tipping off authorities. (New York City Patch)
- In light of Tuesday's shooting, Mayor Adams floated the idea of introducing metal detectors into the Subway system. He later clarified that he wasn't referring to airport-style TSA security, which he understands would be impractical, but rather 'innovative new technologies' that he would like to test out in the future. (New York City Patch)
- Subway commuters tentatively returned to 36th Street N station in Brooklyn on Wednesday, in the wake of the previous day's shooting. One commuter commented there were about one third as many people as usual on their train car. Many straphangers told Patch they had no choice but to use public transit, due to the high price and slow commuting time for car services. (New York City Patch)
- Upper East Side residents are furious at the owner of a townhouse on 62nd Street who, after building a rooftop extension on their property, disappeared for many years while their property incurred thousands of dollars in fines, only to return this week with a request to get started on a new construction project. (New York City Patch)
- Emily Engstler, who grew up on Roosevelt Island, was picked 4th in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) draft for the Indiana Fever. The 21-year-old is the first player from New York City to be picked in the WNBA's first round since 2010. (New York City Patch)

- In search of housing? There are dozens of apartments with below market rate rents in Astoria and Long Island City open for housing lotteries. (New York City Patch)
- Ellington in the Park, an Upper West Side restaurant, is re-opening its popular outdoor dining seats, with dazzling views of Riverside Park and the Hudson River. (New York City Patch)
