Coronavirus Cases Grow In NYC, Could Top 1,000 In Days: Mayor

Everybody in NYC should assume they've been exposed, city officials said.

NEW YORK CITY – Every New Yorker should assume they've been exposed to the new coronavirus as positive diagnoses reached 269 in the city Sunday — and are expected to top 1,000 within days.

In a conference call with U.N. diplomats Saturday, city officials said, “Everyone in New York should assume that they have been in contact with COVID 19,” Foreign Policy reported after seeing a recording of the conversation.

Mayor Bill de Blasio appeared on CNN Sunday morning and revealed the new number of diagnoses, which was up from 183 from Saturday night.

"We're going to clearly have a thousand cases at some point next week, probably not even too far into next week," he said.

He continued, "We've never seen anything like this. Let's be clear, this is a crisis that will be with us, first of all, I believe, at least six months. It's unlike anything we've dealt with in our memory."
