NYC Councilman Caught On Video Removing Rival's Campaign Flyer: Report

The incident occurred at a Manhattan apartment complex earlier this month.

NEW YORK CITY — A New York City council member was apparently caught on video removing an opponent's campaign flyer inside a Manhattan apartment complex earlier this month, according to a report.

Councilman Christopher Marte was caught on Ring camera video removing a pamphlet for Elizabeth Lewinsohn, a candidate challenging him in the June 24 Democratic primary, according to the New York Daily News.

Marte’s district includes Chinatown and parts of the Lower East Side. The video footage was provided by a resident who lives in the 265-275 Cherry St. complex. The alleged incident occurred on May 7.

The footage shows Marte walking in a hallway in the building and then kneeling down to pick up the pamphlet that was left at a neighbor's door and stuffing it in his bag, according to the report.

The resident, Christian Gil, said she saw the pamphlet at her neighbor’s door just a couple hours before Marte showed up.

Lewinsohn campaign manager David Quesada told the outlet that the pamplet looked like one of their the campaign’s mailers. Lewinsohn’s campaign had distributed mailers in that building earlier that day.

The campaign manager believes that the card Marte removed was a mailer with the phrase “Leadership That Gets Result.”

Marte or his campaign has not responded to requests for comment, according to the report.
