NEW YORK — He won't visit The Bronx for a Yankees game, but Mayor Bill de Blasio will fly across the country to see his hometown baseball team. Hizzoner will take in a Boston Red Sox game this week during a presidential campaign swing through Los Angeles, his camp confirmed Wednesday.

The Democratic mayor will see the Sox take on the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim Friday evening, according to campaign spokesperson Olivia Lapeyrolerie. The game will follow de Blasio's Thursday visit to Las Vegas, where he's scheduled to address a convention held by the Nevada State AFL-CIO, a labor group.

The mayor's visit to the City of Angels will also include a taping of the "Pod Save America" podcast hosted by former Barack Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau. De Blasio's episode is not expected to be available until next week, Lapeyrolerie said.

Bred in Cambridge, Massachusetts, de Blasio has remained a steadfast Red Sox fan as the chief executive of the home city of the New York Yankees despite the teams' bitter rivalry.

De Blasio has said he made the sojourn to Yankee Stadium several times before taking office. But when the Bronx Bombers got close to the World Series in 2017, the mayor said he would not pay a visit to The House That Ruth Built to see them play.

"I have my own allegiance. I have my own history. I’ll be myself," de Blasio said in October 2017. "They’ll have their games, and if they win in the end, we will honor them."
