NEW YORK CITY — The FDNY’s summer block party series kicked off in Bushwick Saturday and more events are coming to Queens, Manhattan, Staten Island and The Bronx.

Brooklynites gathered outside the Engine 277/Ladder 112 fire station at Knickerbocker Avenue and Palmetto Street for a day of festivities in the summer fun.

Acting FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh said it is exciting to be able to host the event in-person.

“Once again, we open our doors to New Yorkers, to meet the men and women who bravely serve our city,” said Kavanagh. “Like so many gatherings, these important community events that celebrate the connection between FDNY members and the people they protect were canceled due to the pandemic.”

During the block parties, people will also have the opportunity to learn about critical fire and life safety tips and the event will afford young people a chance to explore careers with the department, added Kavanagh.
