Fire Tears Through Bronx Building, Injures 19: FDNY

The Wednesday morning blaze started on the building's ground level and spread to the second and third floors, the FDNY said.

THE BRONX, NY — A two-alarm fire tore through a residential building in the Bronx and left more than a dozen people injured early Wednesday morning, the FDNY said. The blaze in the three-story building on Holland Avenue near East 214th Street was first reported at 6:10 a.m., a Fire Department spokesman said.

The fire started on the ground floor and spread to the building's second and third floors, the spokesman said. It was under control just after 7:15 a.m., he said.

The blaze left two people critically injured, seven seriously hurt and 10 others, including one firefighter and an NYPD cop, with minor injuries, according to the FDNY.

Video from the Citizen app showed smoke pouring out of the building and a firefighter ascending a ladder towards the roof.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the FDNY said.
