First NYC Public Schools Close Because Of Coronavirus
Two high schools were shut down Thursday after a student tested positive for the virus.
THE BRONX, NY – The first New York City public schools were forced to close Thursday after a student tested positive for the new coronavirus.
The Laboratory School of Finance and Technology and South Bronx Preparatory: A College Board School, which are co-located high schools on East 145th St., will initially be closed for 24 hours, Mayor Bill de Blasio said.

"We don't take this decision lightly and we know the disruption and anxiety this means for students, faculty and parents," he said.
The city is tracing people who may have been in contact with the student and will put in place quarantines and testing, he said. The school building is being completely disinfected.

Though these are the first public schools to close, several private schools and colleges have cancelled classes in the city.
