Former New Yorker First Confirmed Death In Miami Condo Collapse

While her 15-year-old son made it out, Stacie Fang, 54, did not survive. The New York Times reported that she was a former student in NYC.

NEW YORK CITY — The first person confirmed killed in the Miami condo collapse is a former New York City student, according to a report.

Stacie Fang, 54, was named Friday by officials in Florida.

The New York Times reported that she was a graduate from Downtown Manhattan's Pace University who left the school in 1990. Public records show she had lived in Manhattan, Bayside, Queens and Staten Island.

Fang's LinkedIn page also states she attended the Swedish Institute: A College of Health Sciences, a New York City-based holistic educational program.

Fang was pronounced dead on Thursday after being pulled out of the rubble, the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner Department said on Friday.

Her 15-year-old son Jonah Handler was found alive after being pulled from the building's debris by rescue workers.
