New York City has 73 entries on the list.
NEW YORK – The top 500 companies in America – huge businesses that represent two-thirds of the nation's GDP and bring in $13.7 trillion a year in revenue – have been revealed, and 73 of them are headquartered in New York City.
Fortune Magazine ranked the companies based on total revenue. Nationally, Walmart topped the 2019 list, followed by Exxon Mobil and Apple. Berkshire Hathaway and Amazon ranked No.4 and No.5, rounding out the top five spots on the list.
To put the list in context, Fortune writes that just a tenth of the companies are responsible for nearly half of the total $13.7 trillion. (You can read more in detail about the list via Fortune here.)
