- Dashawn Carters, a 25-year-old formerly homeless man, became the fourth person to die on Rikers Island this year. A scathing report released only days after his death describes the circumstances surrounding the other three, as advocates continue to decry the jail's decrepit conditions. (New York City Patch)
- An appeals court dismissed a case brought by New York Attorney General Letitia Jamesagainst Amazon, claiming the tech company had inadequately protected its workers at two NY facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic. James is weighing her legal options. (Reuters)
- New York State pledged to create a $35 million fund to help increase abortion access. Twenty-five million dollars will go towards expanding clinics' capacity, while the other $10 million will cover the costs of increased security, over concerns of anti-abortion extremists, Gov. Hochul announced. (New York City Patch)
- A massive fire killed one person and left five others injured, just one block away from the massive Bronx blaze that took 17 lives in January. The fire is still under investigation, the FDNY reports. (New York City Patch)
- The city plans to close heavily trafficked portions of Rockaway Beach through at least July, due to costal resiliency projects that they hope will prevent beach erosion. Local elected officials say they were given no notice, while businesses and residents worry about the potential loss of revenue during the start of their busiest season. (QNS.com)
