Here's What New Yorkers Can Do to Support Issues They Care About

Some organizations to join or help for those who are demoralized by Tuesday's election.

NEW YORK CITY, NY — Those who support the rights of LGBTQIA, immigrants, workers on minimum wage, women, Muslims, and anyone else who has been slighted by the president elect mourned Wednesday. But they also expressed a deep desire to act on their beliefs by helping. Patch put together a list of organizations in Manhattan, New York City that really need your help.

Planned Parenthood NYC: The New York City wing of Planned Parenthood tweeted that its "doors stay open."

"Planned Parenthood health centers, so they can continue to serve the people who rely on them — people who come from communities that need our continued support in this new reality: immigrants, people of color, the LGBTQ community, people of faith, and more," Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards said in a statement. "It's up to us to stand strong. It's up to us to make sure that Planned Parenthood health centers will be there wherever and whenever they are needed, no matter what."

The best ways to show support for the organization, with a facility at the Margaret Sanger Center on 26 Bleecker St. in Soho, are to volunteer, attend events, mobilize others, and educate yourself. Here is a list of events organized by Planned Parenthood in the coming months, including a panel about sex education and a benefit featuring Ilaza Glazer and Janeane Garofalo.

The Center, based in Chelsea on West 13th Street, offers LGBT communities in New York City programs for wellness, arts, entertainment, and cultural events. They offer recovery programs, parenthood programs, and family support services. They host events of all kinds.

The Center is an irreplaceable part of the sense of LGBT community in Manhattan and is always asking for volunteers and donations.

Muslim Community Network, NYC

The founding chapter of the women's rights group is devastated but providing motivational quotes to move on and keep trucking to fight for justice for women and girls everywhere.
