Hundreds of Ryans Gather In NYC For Guinness World Record Attempt

NEW YORK CITY — Hundreds of Ryans came together last weekend in Union Square as they attempted to break a unique world record.

The Ryan Meetup organization hosted the "Rytoberfest" held at Torch and Crown on Sept. 13 with the aim of breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people with the same first name.

According to the organization, all proceeds from the event went to the Ryan Callahan Foundation, started by former New York Rangers Captain Ryan Callahan to raise money for pediatric cancer patients and their families.

The organization hasn't released the official tally of the event.

The first ever Ryan meet up dates back to October 2023 in Brooklyn. The Ryan Meetup organization has since held events all over the United States, including in Denver, CO, San Diego, CA, and Austin, TX, among others.

The organization has one rule — participants' first name must be Ryan – no "Bryans" allowed.

The Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people with the same first name was set in 2017 when over 2,000 people with the first name "Ivan" gathered in Kupres in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
