NEW YORK CITY — Get off the stage, New York City karaoke singers — and not just because of your horrible singing.

Live performances in bars and restaurants face added coronavirus restrictions under updated guidelines from the State Liquor Authority.

The rules allow live music and DJs so long as the performance is “incidental to the dining experience and not the draw itself.”

“All other forms of live entertainment, such as exotic dancing, comedy shows, karaoke etc., are not permissible currently regardless of phase,” the guidelines state.

Bars and restaurants have faced added scrutiny from the state and Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who has initiated a crackdown on establishments that flout coronavirus rules.

The new guidelines restrict ticketed or advertised shows that can draw crowds where the virus can spread.

“If offering music, indoors or out, all relevant aspects of the respective Department of Health guidance dining must be followed, e.g., patrons should not be standing except for necessary reasons (e.g., restroom, entering/exiting), standing patrons should wear face coverings, etc.,” the guidelines state. “Performers should be at least 12 feet from patrons.”

Eater first reported on the new guidelines.
