LIRR Says to Expect Delays, Cancellations on Evening Commute
The derailment of a work train on Monday morning will cause delays and cancellations for the afternoon commute.
The derailment of a Long Island Rail Road work train snarled the Monday morning commute, but its effects aren't over yet.
The LIRR is warning commuters that there will be possible delays and cancellations due to repair work on the evening commute as well.

No one was injured when the work train derailed in Woodside, Queens during the morning commute, but trains were delayed in both directions and some westbound trains experienced cancellations.

As of 1 p.m., trains on the Montauk line were still experiencing delays due to congestion from the derailed work train. All other lines had returned to normal service.
Some trains were also diverted through Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn instead of heading to 34th Street-Penn Station. Eastbound trains were not stopping in Woodside, Kew Gardens or Forest Hills.

According to the MTA, 301,000 commuters travel on 735 trains on the LIRR each weekday.
