Luigi Mangione Fighting Extradition To NYC, Has Outburst At Court
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul plans to submit a warrant for Mangione's extradition from Pennsylvania.

NEW YORK CITY — Luigi Mangione is fighting extradition to New York City after he was denied bail by a Pennsylvania judge on Tuesday — his court appearance also included a brief outburst from the suspect as he was escorted into court by police.
"It’s completely out of touch and an insult to the intelligence of the American people. It’s lived experience!," Mangione is reported to have said, according to CNN.
The 26-year-old suspect will remain detained at Huntingdon State Correctional Institution in Pennsylvania, according to the New York Times.

“We do not intend to delay this defendant’s extradition to New York and we certainly — we’ve indicated to New York, their prosecution should take precedence, and then ours will follow," Weeks said.
Mangione’s lawyers have 14 days to file a petition for habeas corpus, according to CNN.
“They have 14 days to file a petition for habeas corpus, and that would simply be a document challenging the commonwealth’s ability to prove that the defendant is the person that the state of New York has issued the arrest warrant for,” Weeks stated.
Any court hearing on that petition will have to happen after the 14-day deadline.
According to a spokesperson, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul plans to submit a warrant for Mangione’s extradition from Pennsylvania, CNN reported.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office also indicated they will seek a warrant in order to secure Mangione’s extradition back to New York.
