NEW YORK CITY — Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani holds a 10 point lead in the mayoral general election race, while Mayor Eric Adams ranks in a distant fourth, according to a new poll released Wednesday.

The poll conducted by political consulting firm Slingshot Strategies found Mamdani ahead with 35 percent of the vote, followed by Cuomo in second place with 25 percent, Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa with 14 percent and Adams in fourth place with 11 percent.

Independent candidate Jim Walden was at 1 percent. Thirteen percent of voters said they weren't sure yet who they voted for, while 1 percent picked another candidate.

Pollsters surveyed 1,036 registered New York City voters between July 2-6 with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.2 percentage points.

Slingshot Strategies previously worked for mayoral candidate Scott Stringer in the Democratic primary.

An Adams spokesperson told the New York Post that “just weeks ago, Andrew Cuomo was ahead in multiple polls and then went on to lose the primary by double digits.”

“The latest Slingshot poll is just another example of how out-of-touch and unreliable political polling has become,” he added.

Other poll findings include that certain groups like male voters, non-college voters and those age 45 to 64 would not vote for Mamdani in the general election.

Notably, 26 percent of Republicans voters would vote for Adams, compared to Mamdani’s 7 percent. But the mayor is still behind Sliwa, who got 43 percent and Cuomo with 16 percent.

Earlier this week, Adams called on Cuomo to drop out of the general election in November so he can have a better shot at defeating Mamdani, Patch previously reported.

In an interview with CNBC on Monday, Adams said Cuomo "didn't have the legs in New York" and disclosed the former governor recently asked him to drop out in a phone call.

Also on Monday, Gov. David Paterson told reporters at a press conference that either Adams or Cuomo should drop out of the race and support the other, in an effort to defeat Mamdani.

"There are candidates running on independent lines. They're trying to get support and what I'm trying to focus on today is who would emerge from that group of people to possibly lead the city," he said.

Last week, the former governor was told by Rev. Al Sharpton to drop out of the mayoral race and let Adams and Mamdani have a "one-on-one race," Patch previously reported.

Sliwa has rebuffed calls for him to drop out of the race, so Adams could potentially run on the Republican ballot.
