Man Charged, Attacked Pregnant Woman With Metal Pipe On NYC Street: DA
The attack caused the woman to fall to the ground, police said.
NEW YORK CITY — A 37-year-old man has been charged and is accused of attacking a pregnant woman with a metal pipe in Manhattan back in May, prosecutors announced Monday.
Raquan El, of Brooklyn, has been charged with attempted assault, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, prosecutors said.
The 37-year-old is accused of striking the pregnant woman with a metal pipe as she walked down West 18th Street and 6th Avenue on May 6.

The attack caused the woman to fall to the ground. She suffered swelling to the back of her head and substantial pain to her head, neck, and shoulders.
“Raquan El allegedly attacked a vulnerable New Yorker—an unsuspecting pregnant woman who was a complete stranger to him—in a brutal act of violence with a weapon,” District Attorney Alvin Bragg said. “We will not tolerate New Yorkers being assaulted. I wish the victim a speedy recovery.”

The victim and multiple eyewitnesses called 911. Officers took El into custody a short distance away from the crime scene.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
