Man Charged For Choking Woman To Death Near NYC Hotel: NYPD

Jaheem Warren​, 33, has been charged with second degree murder, assault and strangulation, police said. ​

NEW YORK CITY — A 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged with choking a woman to death near a Manhattan hotel last month, police announced Tuesday.

Jaheem Warren—who was taken into custody Tuesday morning— has been charged with second degree murder, assault and strangulation, police said.

Warren is accused of putting Leslie Torres, 23, in a chokehold outside the Hotel Riu Plaza New York on West 46th Street in Times Square on Oct. 29, police said.

Officers received a call from Mount Sinai West - NYC around 1:45 p.m. that an unidentified woman was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Torres succumbed to her injuries and died on Nov. 4, police said.

The NYPD is still determining a motive in this incident. It does not appear Warren and Torres knew each other.
