"As alleged, Muslim Brunson used a glass bottle to attack two women, almost killing one, who were simply walking in SoHo in the middle of the day,” District Attorney Alvin Bragg said. “These unprovoked attacks are deeply disturbing, and I hope the victims continue to heal from these terrifying assaults. Random acts of violence have no place in our city, and we will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to keep Manhattan safe. I thank the NYPD for its quick response.”

Brunson is accused of throwing a glass bottle at a 28-year-old woman’s back, then picking up a piece of the bottle and chasing her with it while screaming, prosecutors said.

Minutes later, he approached a 25-year-old woman and hurled the piece of glass into her neck, slicing it, and exposing her muscle, tissue, and veins.

The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where she received emergency surgery. She was placed on a ventilator and needed a tracheostomy. The 25-year-old woman stayed in the ICU for over a week.

Brunson was taken into custody a short distance from the scene, police said.
