Happy Saturday New York City! Get ready for another hot couple of days. It's not just the temperature that's nearing record highs–so is the NYC real estate market, where rents in Manhattan averaged $5,000 in June. The city's planning to challenge a judge who blocked a law that would allow non-citizens to vote in local elections, while a different judge granted a temporary restraining order on controversial education budget cuts.

- The average rent in Manhattan hit $5,000 in June, a new record high–and it's not much lower in Queens or Brooklyn, where the averages were $2,973 and $3,266, respectively. A different study found recently that those numbers are 40 percent higher than the same time last year. (New York City Patch)
- New York City signaled on Friday that it would appeal a decision made by a Staten Island NY Supreme Court judge last night to block a law that would allow noncitizen residents to vote in municipal elections. Immigrant advocates had been concerned the city wouldn't defend the law, which could enfranchise almost one million potential voters. (Queens Eagle)
- Mayor Eric Adams and the City Council's negotiations over how to restore $250 million in funding to the Department of Education have stalled. According to sources at City Hall Mayor Adams wants council members to sign an agreement acknowledging that budget cuts will be necessary in future years. (Gothamist)
- Meanwhile, a judge granted a temporary restraining order to the cuts themselves after education advocates filed a lawsuit. (Gothamist)
- Hoping to curtail mosquito activity, the Department of Health is planning to spray bug repellent over sections of Queens (including Bayside) and Staten Island on Tuesday, July 26. It recommended it's best to stay indoors during the spraying, especially if you have sensitive skin. (AMNY)
- The NYC triathlon taking place Sunday will be cut short due to extreme heat indexes forecasted to reach as high as 104 degrees. The race, which begins at Riverside Park at 81st Street, will have a 12.4 miles biking section, down from the usual 24.8 miles. (New York City Patch)

- Nothing but dust and rubble remains of a historic Bed-Stuy mansion that was almost granted landmark status. An order to stop demolition was issued on Friday–but it was already too late. (New York City Patch)
- Housing costs might be through the roof on dry land in NYC, but if you're looking for a bargain consider checking out this house boat in Greenpoint that's going for just $600 per month. The only downside–there's no bathroom. (New York Post)
