Is it a bad omen that New York City's new mayor will be inaugurated at an event where we celebrate dropping the ball?

Only time will tell.

Mayor-elect Eric Adams announced Wednesday that his inauguration will be held in Times Square shortly after midnight on New Years Day instead of at King's Theater in Flatbush. (Adams chose to scratch his plans to celebrate in his home borough when omicron started its spread.) Meanwhile Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a plan of his own to protect Lower Manhattan's shoreline from climate change. The $5-7 billion plan calls for extending a mile of the downtown shoreline but does not include tearing down the FDR Drive, which some locals hoped it would.
