'Extensive Delays' on All NYC Subway Lines Wednesday Due to Electrical Issue (UPDATES)

It's not a good time to be traveling on the subway.

UPDATE 4:10 p.m.: Don't expect to get a refund, but the MTA did tweet a link to its delay verification form late Wednesday afternoon.

UPDATE 3:50 p.m.: The MTA says regular service has returned to the 1, 2 and 3 and 4, 5 and 6 trains after the earlier electrical problems.

But yes, you can still expect residual delays.

UPDATE 3:30 p.m.: As if the electrical issues weren't enough, the MTA is now reporting issues on the A, C and E lines and the B, D, F and M lines due to a police investigation at Chambers Street.

Northbound A and C trains are running on the F line from Jay St.-MetroTech to West 4th Street-Washington Square.

UPDATE 2:45 p.m.: The MTA says it has restored good service to all of the lettered lines. It is still experiencing delays on the 1, 2, 3 and 4, 5, 6 trains, as well as the 7 train and Times Square shuttle.

The MTA is currently using a backup Rail Control Center, a spokesperson said. The system with which the MTA communicates, dispatches and organizes its trains is currently down, which means trains are being dispatched locally instead of from the main Rail Control Center.

It also means there are no countdown clocks in any of the stations.

ORIGINAL STORY

The MTA is having a very bad day. Not only are there delays on some lines, there are delays on all lines as of Wednesday afternoon.

An MTA spokesperson said the delays are due to an "electrical issue" at its Rail Control Center.

The MTA said trains never stopped running, but there are extensive delays on all lines. An MTA spokesperson said they are experiencing more issues on numbered lines.

There was no timetable for when the issues would be cleared.

The MTA sent out an ominous tweet, without mentioning a particular subway line as usual, to indicate all trains are running with delays.

The complaints on social media had already started rolling in before 2 p.m.

We'll update this story with further developments.
