THE BRONX, NY — Friends of a murdered Bronx Uber driver have launched a fundraising campaign to support his family as cops search for his killer. The GoFundMe page had raised more than $9,000 as of Tuesday afternoon to help the widow and young son of Ganiou Gandonou, whom police say was fatally stabbed in the Baychester neighborhood last weekend.

"This senseless violence abruptly ended the life of a man determined to do nothing more than to help his family," the fundraiser page reads.

Gandonou, 27, immigrated to the United States in 2015 and had been working as a livery and Uber driver before his death, according to the page. He was working when he was targeted in an attempted robbery and subsequently crashed his car on Saturday night, NYPD Assistant Chief William Aubry said Monday.

The NYPD is searching for a black-clad man who police believe is responsible for Gandonou's death. The department released video of the man on Sunday.

Gandonou is survived by his wife, Latifatou, and his 2-year-old boy, Ryan, the GoFundMe page says. The campaign aims to raise $10,000 that will be given directly to the family, as they will "naturally incur many expenses" after his death, according to the site.

"It is with a somber heart that we invite you to honor Ganiou's legacy by making a contribution that will help facilitate his dream of creating a better world for his family," the page says.
