Here are the top five stories in New York City today:
- NYC's private-sector vaccine mandate will end on Nov. 1, Mayor Eric Adams announced yesterday — although shots are still highly encouraged. The public-sector mandate, covering police officers, firefighters, teachers and all other city employees, doesn't yet have an end date. (New York City Patch)
- The MTA plans on installing two cameras in every car of every subway train, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Tuesday. She's hoping the added security measure will make New Yorkers feel safer using public transit, following the mass-shooting that took place in Brooklyn five months ago. All 6,455 subway cars should have cameras by 2025. (New York City Patch)
- Workers at New York City Chipotle locations say that the company still isn't complying with the city's Fair Workweek law. The law requires that workers be notified of their schedules at least two weeks in advance. The company just paid a $20 million settlement for not complying with the same law. Penalties for continued violations of the law could include "denying, suspending or revoking the licenses of repeat offenders." (The City)
- Erick Adame, a top weatherman at New York 1, was fired from his job after nude photos of him were leaked from an adult webcam. Adame believes he was victim of revenge porn and said in a statement shared on Instagram "But, let me be clear about something: I don't apologize for being openly gay or for being sex-positive." He has received an outpouring of support from New York City politicians. (New York City Patch)
- New Yorkers with connections to Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic — many of whom live in The Bronx — are worried for their families in the two Caribbean nations after Hurricane Fiona dumped up to 30 inches of rain on the islands last weekend. At least four people have died from the storm as of Tuesday. (Bronx Times)
