- Incumbent Gov. Kathy Hochul jumped to an early lead against her Republican challenger Lee Zeldin on Tuesday night — but many votes had yet to be counted. She appeared to have won all New York City boroughs except for Staten Island. Democratic Attorney General Letitia James declared victory in her race, although NY1 and the Associated Press had not projected a win as of last night. - Twitter is planning to lay off more than 400 workers in its Chelsea office — the tech company's second largest after San Francisco — according to a notice filed with the state's Department of Labor. Patch attempted to reach out to Twitter for comment. One email bounced back, while another went unanswered as of publication. (New York City Patch)
- Throughout the day, voters across Brooklyn reported a slew of issues at their polling locations, including missing ballots, broken voter machines and closed poll sites. As of 9 a.m. on Tuesday over 200,000 people had signed in to vote in the borough, including early voters. (New York City Patch)
- Newly released Department of Education data shows which New York City neighborhood's public schools have received the greatest amount of asylum seekers. According to the city, 5,851 students placed at 369 schools have been identified by a program aiming to connect asylum-seekers with government services. (Gothamist)
- A ticket holder in California won the record-breaking $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot on Tuesday morning, after delays in Monday night's drawing. (AMNY)

- A T. rex skeleton unearthed in South Dakota is going on auction in New York City starting at $15 million. (AMNY)
- As Hell Gate describes it, Tuesday's (very early) morning lunar eclipse was "like a soothing cup of tea you sip while contemplating the passage of time and your eventual death." (Hell Gate)
- A major weather system, Tropical Storm Nicole, appears to be heading New York City's way this weekend. (Gothamist)
