New York City Food and Wine Festival: What to See and Eat
The annual NYC Food and Wine Festival kicks off on Thursday with some of the biggest names in the restaurant industry taking part.
NEW YORK, NY — The New York Food and Wine Festival kicks off on Oct. 13 with some of the biggest names in the restaurant — and television — industry taking part. The annual event is sponsored by Food Network, so you know there will be a ton of their big-name personalities — Giada de Laurentiis, Anne Burrell, Robert Irvine, Bobby Flay, and yes, Guy Fieri.
There are literally hundreds of events being held from Thursday through Sunday, though many are already sold out. Patch looks at five events which still have tickets available (as of Tuesday) and are worth checking out.
- Tacos & Tequila presented by Tequila Cazadores (Eventi Hotel, Oct. 13, 1o p.m.) — "Chopped" judge Aaron Sanchez hosts this event which sounds pretty awesome just reading the name alone. Who can go wrong with tacos and tequila? Guests will be able to sample "a wide variety of delectable tacos and creative cocktails prepared by top chefs and mixologists," according to the promoters. Some of the city restaurants that will be serving up tacos include Bodega Negra in Chelsea, Fonda in Park Slope and Leyenda in Carroll Gardens. Cost: $150
- Best of Brooklyn presented by MUNCHIES (Berg'n, Oct. 14, 7 p.m.) — Action Bronson will be hosting and Pies 'n' Thighs will be there. Need we say more? Well, if we need to sell you more, there are also 10 other top Brooklyn restaurants — Talde, Mighty Quinn's Barbecue, Ovenly, and more — which will be serving up food. Plus, Berg'n is just a great location for a big Brooklyn food party. TV on the Radio's Jaleel Bunton will be providing the music. Cost: $150
- Haute Dogs & Champagne (The Bowery Hotel, Oct. 14, 10 p.m.) — Your inclinations are correct, this is an event featuring really fancy hot dogs (and, obviously, champagne). It's a weird combination, but host Robert Irvine of "Dinner: Impossible" will be overseeing the menu, so you know it'll be good even if it's a little messy getting there. Local chefs Mark Rosati from Shake Shack, Wayne Rosenbaum from Papaya King and Jake Klein from Jake's Handcrafted in Park Slope will be three of the people cooking up the dogs. Southern Glazer's Wine and Spirits will be providing the champagne. Cost: $125
- Nordic Breakfast (Agern-Grand Central Terminal, Oct. 15, 10 a.m.) — Breakfast always tends to get short shrift when it comes to high-end cooking. The duo of Claus Meyer and Gunnar Gíslason from Agern will be changing that on Saturday morning. The meal will feature "Nordic breakfast traditions with home crafted Nordic style dairy products, wholesome porridges and a creative take on breakfast eggs," according to the promoters. Cost: $100
- Game Day Eats presented by Samuel Adams (Hill Country Brooklyn, Oct. 16, 12:30 p.m.) — Let's get back to junk-food basics with wings, BBQ, nachos and beer. ESPN "Sportscenter" host Jaymee Sire, who blogs about food in her spare time, will play host for the event. Hill Country's chef Charles Grund Jr., Jon Sherman from Sticky's Finger Joint in Greenwich Village and Rebecca Baez from Javelina in Gramercy will be among the chefs cooking up the gameday eats. By the time you're done, you'll be perfectly stuffed to sit on the couch and watch the 4:30 p.m. game. Cost: $125
