- Early voting ahead of New York's August 23 (Tuesday) primary ends Sunday. Here's a primer on the primary races for State Senate and Congress in newly-drawn districts. So far around a meager 50,000 votes have been cast early in the election, which is expected to draw low turnout. (New York City Patch)
- The city is forming a new inter-agency task force to assist the children of asylum seekers who will be entering the education system this fall. Approximately 1,000 new students are expected in total. (AMNY)
- New York City's unemployment rate still lags behind the United States. The country as a whole regained all jobs that were lost during the COVID-era with a 3.5 percent unemployment rate, while the city is still at 6.1 percent. (THE CITY)
- The schedule of Frank Carone, Mayor Eric Adams's Chief of Staff, provides a glimpse into the Adams Administration's focus and priorities. His calendar, obtained through a Freedom of Information request, reveal meetings with executives in the cryptocurrency and casino industries, as well as several city council members. (Gothamist)
- Friends and authors rallied on the steps of the NYC Public Library on Friday in solidarity with Salman Rushdie, an Iranian writer who was attacked while on stage at an event last week.
