🌱New Yorkers Rally To Support Roe V. Wade + Hochul Picks New Lt. Gov.

Good morning, New York City. Tuesday, many New Yorkers woke up to the news that the Supreme Court, in a leaked ruling, would likely strike down the landmark decision Roe V. Wade, leaving abortion rights at to the discretion of individual states.
While New York has abortion access codified into its constitution, that didn't stop thousands from taking to the streets on Tuesday to show their support for the right to choose.

Here are the top five stories in New York City today:
- Funding for and access to abortion will likely be key in City Council's upcoming budget negotiations. Lawmakers spoke at a press conference on Tuesday, vowing to "ensure that this right is protected." While she didn't offer specifics, Council Speaker Adrienne Adams noted the Supreme Court's ruling would have a particularly adverse affect on low-income women in conservative states. (Gothamist)
- Only 39 out of 264 homeless New Yorkers accepted to be transferred from the street into a shelter, as Mayor Adams' controversial "encampment sweeps" enter their sixth week. City Hall considers that number to be an accomplishment, but homeless advocates are not convinced.(New York City Patch)
- Governor Hochul picked Antonio Delgado, an upstate New York Democratic Congressman, to be the state's next lieutenant governor, after Brian Benjamin was forced to resign from the same position over bribery charges. (New York City Patch)
- A close associate of New York City's new sheriff, Anthony Miranda, is a "disgraced" former Assemblymember from Queens, who was forced to resign from office after being convicted of sexual assault, and pleading guilty to federal corruption charges. (New York Daily News)
- New Yorkers took to the streets en masse Tuesday afternoon and evening, showing their support for the right to choose. Up to 1,000 gathered in Lower Manhattan, with protests also seen at Barclays Center and Washington Square Park. (New York City Patch)
