The new initiative, a joint program from the mayor's office and BuzzFeed, announced the 2013 novel as the winner on Thursday morning. New Yorkers voted as "Americanah" for the bookclub's selection out of five finalists.

Adichie's novel follows a young Nigerian woman's move to the United States to attend school as she examines her life in both countries. It was awarded the National Book Critics Circle Fiction award.

Here are your options:

  • Download a free version of the audiobook, available on Scribd through the One Book program for 90 days.
