Here are the top five stories in New York City today:

  1. New York Attorney General Letitia James filed a long-anticipated lawsuit on Wednesday against former President Donald Trump and the Trump Organization, accusing them of an "astounding" decade-long pattern of fraud and deception to enrich themselves. James is seeking at least $250 million, she said in a press conference, adding, "Claiming money that you do not have does not amount to the 'art of the deal,'" she said. "It's the art of the steal." (New York City Patch)
  2. The U.S. Supreme Court is set to review an NYPD officer's lawsuit against New York City's vaccine mandate for municipal workers in an Oct. 7 conference. That doesn't necessarily mean there will be a ruling on the case, but it is possible. (Gothamist)
  3. Union members with the Communications Workers of America Local are urging Con Edison — New York City's gas and electric utility provider — not to drop a union contract in favor of cheaper labor. Con Ed hasn't made a final decision, and recently alerted customers to expect higher-than-usual bills this winter. (AMNY)
  4. NYC delivery workers are not always compensated when they are injured on the job — it depends instead on the app that they are working for. While the delivery company DoorDash provides occupational insurance, two other major apps, Grubhub and Relay, do not. (THE CITY)
  5. A massive five-block rezoning in Astoria, Queens, known as Innovation QNS, was approved by the City Planning Commission on Wednesday, meaning it will now move on to the City Council. Local Council Member Julie Won has been a vocal opponent of the project which would build 2,800 new apartments — 700 of which would be affordable units. (New York City Patch)
