- New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Sunday that she has tested positive for COVID-19 and will be working from home this week. She spent the previous week in the city, meeting with New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy among others. Hochul said she is so far asymptomatic. (NBC News)
- As New York begins its transition to an entirely renewable economy by 2050, in compliance with recently passed state laws, some workers in fossil-fuel reliant industries are concerned they could be left in the dust as their jobs become obsolete. (The City)
- A 25-year-old man died on Rikers Island, making him the jail's fourth fatality this year. The jail didn't provide additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the death. Rikers Island is currently under a federal government monitor and could be placed under federal control. (New York Daily News)
- The mayor’s office recently reversed course, cancelling two proposed homeless shelters in Manhattan's Chinatown–both of which received large amounts of community opposition. One of them, which would have opened in a former hotel, may have been nixed over a dispute with the Hotel Trades Council. (Gothamist)
- The NYPD released a video on Saturday of a fight in a busy Brooklyn subway station that resulted in two men falling onto the tracks and one of them being slashed in the face. Both straphangers managed to get out of harm's way before an oncoming train. (New York Post )
