NYC 2019-20 School Year Calendar: First Day of School, Vacations

NEW YORK — Summer won't officially end until Sept. 23, but it might as well be over on Sept. 5 for New York City's public school students. That's when they will head back to class for the first day of school, according to the Department of Education's 2019-20 school year calendar.

The calendar includes nearly 30 important dates, including vacations, holidays and parent-teacher conference days. See the list below and mark your calendars now. Also check the links to download the calendar yourself so you don't forget.

• Sept. 5 — First day of school for all students
• Sept. 12 — Parent-teacher conferences for elementary and K-8 schools (evening)
• Sept. 19 —Parent-teacher conferences for middle schools (evening)
• Sept. 26 — Parent-teacher conferences for high schools, K-12 schools and 6-12 schools (evening)
• Sept. 30 to Oct. 1 — Rosh Hashanah (no school)
• Oct. 9 — Yom Kippur (no school)
• Oct. 14 — Columbus Day (no school)
• Nov. 5 — Election Day/Chancellor’s Conference Day for staff development (students don't attend school)
• Nov. 6 to 7 — Parent-teacher conferences for middle schools and District 75 programs (evening and afternoon)
• Nov. 11 — Veterans Day (no school)
• Nov. 13 to 14 — Parent-teacher conferences for elementary and K-8 schools (evening and afternoon)
• Nov. 21 to 22 — Parent-teacher conferences for high schools, K-12 schools and 6-12 schools (evening and afternoon)
• Nov. 28 to 29 — Thanksgiving recess
• Dec. 23 to Jan. 1 — Winter recess
• Jan. 20 — Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day (no school)
• Jan. 27 — Clerical day for upper grades (no school for high school and 6-12 students, except those enrolled in a District 75 program)
• Jan. 28 — Spring term begins (for students in semester-model schools)
• Feb. 17 to 21 — Midwinter recess
• March 4 to 5 — Parent-teacher conferences for elementary and K-8 schools (evening and afternoon)
• March 12 to 13 — Parent-teacher conferences for middle schools and District 75 programs (evening and afternoon)
• March 19 to 20 — Parent-teacher conferences for high schools, K-12 schools and 6-12 schools (evening and afternoon)
• April 9 to 17 — Spring recess
• May 7 — Parent-teacher conferences for elementary and K-8 schools (evening)
• May 14 — Parent-teacher conferences for middle schools (evening)
• May 21 — Parent-teacher conferences for high schools, K-12 schools and 6-12 schools (evening)
• May 25 — Memorial Day (no school)
• June 4 — Anniversary Day/Chancellor’s Conference Day for staff development (no school for students)
• June 9 — Clerical day for lower grades (No school for elementary, middle and District 75 students)
• June 26 — Last day of school for all students
