This NYC Airport Was Named The Best In The Country: See Who

The Forbes Travel Guide rankings were based off a survey of 5,000 hospitality and travel experts and includes secret inspections.

NEW YORK CITY — A New York City airport was recently named the best in the country, according to a new travel guide survey.

LaGuardia Airport was selected as the top airport in the country by Forbes Travel Guide, after decades being considered one of the worst — even drawing criticism by the then-vice president Joe Biden.

The rankings were based off a survey of 5,000 hospitality and travel experts, as well as secret inspections, according to the guide.

LaGuardia Airport just completed a recent $8 billion renovation which involved rebuilding two terminals as well as about five miles of roadway.

Similarly, in March, a survey of airline passengers named LaGuardia the best midsized U.S. airports, according to the Port Authority.

LaGuardia’s renovation, announced by then-Governor Andrew Cuomo back in 2014, during the era when LaGuardia had reached an experiential nadir and had become something of an international laughingstock.

Then Vice President Joe Biden had the following to say about it:

"If I blindfolded someone and took him at 2 o'clock in the morning into the airport in Hong Kong and said, 'Where do you think you are?’ He’d say, ‘This must be America. It’s a modern airport.’”

On the other hand:

"If I took you and blindfolded you and took you to LaGuardia Airport in New York, you'd think, ‘I must be in some third-world country.’ I'm not joking.”

Since the renovations, LaGuardia's Terminal B has been praised and has since been named a Skytrax 5-star terminal.

JFK Airport had the best U.S. airline lounge, with the Delta One Lounge, according to the guide.
