  1. NYC's Department of Buildings commissioner Eric Ulrich resigned on Thursday, just days after his phone was seized amid a probe into illegal gambling. According to the New York Post, the probe centers on Ulrich's conduct as a member of the City Council — where he represented Queens' District 32 — when he may have partaken in backroom card games with mob associates. 2. Sixteen children were among the 188 people killed in traffic crashes in New York City this year–surpassing 2021's 11 child traffic fatalities, data released by the Transportation Alternatives and Families For Safe Streets shows. That's more child deaths than any year since city officials implemented Vision Zero, an initiative to eliminate traffic deaths, nearly a decade ago, advocates said. (New York City Patch)
  3. Donald Trump filed a lawsuit in a Florida court against New York Attorney General Letitia James yesterday, describing her lawsuit against the former president's company, The Trump Organization, as a "war of intimidation and harassment." (New York City Patch)
  4. New York State is set to receive up to $524 million in a settlement with Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc. to settle claims that the company participated in the U.S. opioid crisis, Attorney General James announced. Last year Teva and its affiliates were found liable for public nuisance charges by a jury on Long Island. (Associated Press)
  5. The City's Department of Education announced it would begin to speed up reimbursements to early childhood providers, after weeks of reports that some education centers had to use their own personal savings to cover costs. The Citizens' Committee for Children estimates the city owes $400 million to child care programs, although the city has a lower number. (Gothamist)
