Here are the top five stories in New York City today:
- New York City's COVID-19 risk level has been upgraded from "low" to "medium," according to top health officials, meaning the case rate now stands at 200 per 100,000 people. New Yorkers are encouraged to take additional precaution in everyday activities. (New York City Patch)
- Amazon workers at a warehouse on Staten Island voted Monday against unionization, after a larger neighboring facility had voted for it last month. The Amazon Labor Union, an organizing body, alleges that the company had used anti-union tactics to discourage voters from unionizing. (New York City Patch)
- A 20-year NYPD veteran was convicted on Monday of assaulting a police officer during the January 6 capitol insurrection last year. The NYPD officer, Thomas Webster, had argued he was acting in self-defense. (Associated Press)
- The leader of New York's Young Republicans club has filed a lawsuit against the state's newly drawn Assembly district lines, arguing they are unconstitutional. This comes after the state's top court tossed out the Congressional and State Senate maps, but left the Assembly intact. (New York City Patch)
- A museum dedicated to the Civil Rights movement, to be headed by the Rev. Al Sharpton, will no longer be part of a controversial development in Harlem. Known as One45, it involves building two high-rise and majority-luxury towers in the low-income neighborhood. The project's developer is continuing on. (New York City Patch)
