🌱 NYC Earth Day Protest + 'Ghost Guns' Found In Brooklyn

Happy Saturday, New York City! Yesterday may have been earth day, but in NYC the biggest events in celebration of the planet are taking place today. Also in the news: the city creates a fund to support Ukrainians, and a man assembling illegal 'ghost guns' gets busted.

- 13 climate protestors were arrested in front of The New York Times' printing press in Queens on Friday morning. They were protesting The Times and other media company's coverage of climate change which they deemed insufficient to meet the current threats the world is facing. The Times disputes those claims.(New York City Patch)
- In further commemoration of Earth Day, the MTA announced it would roll out a fleet of 60 zero-emissions buses by the end of the year, that will be sent to neighborhoods with poor air quality and high asthma rates. The transit authority also committed to an entirely emissions-free fleet by 2040. (New York City Patch)
- A Brooklyn man assembled a 'massive arsenal' of ghost guns in his home, according to the borough's District Attorney. He had reportedly built up his collection of over a dozen weapons by purchasing $10,000 worth of parts online, which he then assembled. (New York City Patch)
- Mayor Eric Adams announced a new $2 million fund for Ukrainian immigrants and refugees to support some of the over 3.7 million people that have fled the country since Russia's invasion. The fund will support Ukrainian immigrants in the city access translation and immigration services. NYC is expected to receive a large number of the 100,000 Ukrainian refugees headed to the U.S., according to Adams. (New York City Patch)
- A note tacked to a refrigerator helped authorities to identify the man who allegedly stabbed a 51-year-old woman, Orsolya Gaal, in Forest Hills to death. Reportedly the killer was a handyman the victim had been having an affair with. (Forest Hills Patch)
