- New York State has recovered $3 million, accounting for the stolen wages of over 200 workers throughout the course of the pandemic, Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Tuesday. Since its inception in 2017 the Governor's Wage Theft Task Force has recovered $11 million. (New York City Patch)
- NYC has over 600 confirmed monkeypox cases–more than double last week, and likely an undercount. Many health officials believe it may already be too late to contain the outbreak. Those eligible for vaccinations can text "MONKEYPOX" to 692-692 to be alerted when appointments become available. (New York City Patch)
- If you're feeling the heat this week you're not alone. Most of the city's enormous outdoor pools will be open for an extra hour today and tomorrow–and possibly Friday as well–as the city heads into a 7-day stretch of over 90-degree highs. The parks department is still short-staffed by several hundred lifeguards. (Gothamist)
- Homeless advocates who previously criticized Mayor Eric Adams's controversial encampment sweeps are now teaming up with the Mayor to form new homeless outreach teams, comprised of volunteers and the formerly homeless, and excluding police. The Mayor isn't stoping the sweeps, though. In fact, a man's makeshift wooden house in Chinatown was destroyed by city authorities yesterday. (New York City Patch)
- Mayor Adams also released a statement on Tuesday request support from the Federal Government due to 2,800 "arriving asylum seekers in New York City” that he claims are overwhelming the shelter system. Some homeless advocates see the Mayor's statement as deflecting from the overall need for low-income housing in the city. (City & State)
