Here are the top five stories today in New York City:
- Through a Freedom of Information Law request Patch has obtained the records of eight New Yorker's complaints made to 311 about ghosts in the past year. "The ghosts of Christmas past and Christmas future keep waking me up and trying to make me visit alternate timelines," one city resident reported last October. (New York City Patch)
- New York City will pay two men who were wrongfully convicted for the 1965 killing of Malcolm X $26 million. The settlement comes one year after they were exonerated following a two-year investigation. (Gothamist)
- National political figures are rallying support for Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul and Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin in the final days before the Nov. 8 general election. With polls close and about $6 million in each of the candidate's war chests, Florida GOP Governor Ron DeSantis made an appearance on Long Island in support of Zeldin, while Bill Clinton rallied with Hochul. Her campaign also released an ad featuring former President Barack Obama. (Subscription/The New York Times)
- The Powerball jackpot reached an estimated $1 billion over the weekend after no winning numbers were drawn on Saturday. Lottery officials say this is only second time in its history that the grand total has reached that high. Six lucky ticket holders won $1 million though, by getting all but one number correct. (ABC 7)
- New York City's top doctor, Health Commissioner Ashwin Vasan, is isolating at home after testing positive for COVID-19. According to New York City's COVID tracker, cases are stable with over 2,000 reported per day in the past seven days. (Gothamist)

Patch deal of the day:
Good knives make all the difference in the kitchen, but you don’t need to overpay for them. Seido Japanese knives are made with strong high-carbon stainless steel (high-carbon knives are more durable and usually more expensive) and have an acute 15-degree angle for a noticeably sharper cutting face (most Western-style knives have edge angles of 25 degrees). For a limited time, Patch readers can get a 5-piece Seido Japanese master knife set for 71 percent off. At just under $70, this chef-quality set is perfect for any home cook and would also make a great gift for the holidays.
