NYC Labor Day Weekend Travel: Here's What To Know

NYC buses will be running on a regular weekend schedule, Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, they'll run on a Sunday schedule.​

NEW YORK CITY — New Yorkers travelling into and out of the city Labor Day Weekend will have to contend with a number of train and bus service changes, street closures, packed airports and scheduled road maintenance.

Here's what you need to know.

MTA subway and bus service:

During Labor Day Weekend, there will be no 2 train service between Manhattan and the Bronx, the MTA said.

3 train service will remain suspended over the weekend as well. 2 and 4 trains are expected to fill in and make stops in Brooklyn, according to officials.

The subway will run on a regular weekend schedule, Saturday and Sunday. Subway service will run on a Sunday schedule on Monday.

On Monday, there will be no service to the B, W and Z trains. In addition, there will be no express 6 or 7 trains; and no express F trains in Brooklyn.

For the West Indian American Parade on Monday, the MTA is advising New Yorkers to use Grand Army Plaza or Franklin Avenue-Medgar Evers College stations.

City road/lane closures:

Daytime scheduled maintenance requiring full lane closures will be suspended from 1 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to the MTA.

Road closures for the U.S. Open near the Billie Jean King Tennis Center in Flushing, include:

  • Grand Central Parkway
  • Brooklyn-Queens Expressway
  • Cross Island Parkway
  • Long Island Expressway
  • Whitestone Expressway
  • Van Wyck Expressway

A number of local streets will be closed off for the tournament:

  • Northern Boulevard between Junction Boulevard and Clearview Expressway
  • Roosevelt Avenue between Main Street and 104th Street
  • College Point Boulevard between 31st Avenue and Horace Harding Boulevard
  • 126th Street/Seaver Way between Roosevelt Avenue and Northern Boulevard
  • 111th Street/Saultell Avenue between Roosevelt Avenue and Horace Harding Boulevard
  • Astoria Boulevard between RFK Bridge Plaza and 114th Street
  • Shea Road between 126th Street/Seaver Way and Meridian Road
  • Meridian Road

From 11 p.m. Thursday through 5 a.m. Friday, the Holland Tunnel will have one eastbound lane closed, according to Port Authority officials.

Airports:

About 2.5 million passengers will travel through John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International, LaGuardia and New York Stewart International airports during the six-day period. Thursday, Friday and Monday are expected to be the busiest days at the airports, the Port Authority said in a travel advisory.

All passengers on domestic flights should arrive at the airport at least two hours in advance of their departure time and passengers on international flights should arrive at the airports at least three hours in advance of their departure times

Until Sept. 4, the AirTrain JFK single-ride fare will be reduced to $4.25, to encourage travelers to use mass transit, officials said.
