NYC Medical Centers Shut Out Of Top 10 Children's Hospitals: U.S. News

But several hospitals in the city ranked nationally for pediatric specialities, as well as among state and regional rankings.

NEW YORK CITY — Not one children's hospital in New York City is among the top 10 in the nation, according to a new ranking.

But the city's shut out from the pediatric elite in U.S. News & World Report's 2023-2024 Best Children’s Hospital rankings released Wednesday wasn't complete.

Several New York City-based medical centers were nationally ranked for pediatric specialities. Likewise, a handful were listed in state and regional rankings.

“Parents of sick children face many difficult challenges, including how to identify the best children’s hospital to treat their illness or condition,” Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News, said in statement. “The rankings, which are increasingly determined by objective measures of hospital quality, can help them make informed decisions.”

New York City hospitals in the state and Mid-Atlantic regional rankings were:

New York-Presbyterian Children's Hospital-Columbia and Cornell — State rank 1, regional rank 5, ranked national in 10 pediatric specialties:

  • Ranked 13 in neonatology
  • Ranked 44 in pediatric cancer
  • Ranked 20 in pediatric cardiology and heart surgery
  • Ranked 9 in pediatric diabetes and endocrinology
  • Ranked 25 in pediatric gastroenterology and GI surgery
  • Ranked 43 in pediatric nephrology
  • Ranked 16 in pediatric neurology and neurosurgery
  • Ranked 26 in pediatric orthopedics
  • Ranked 29 in pediatric pulmonology and lung surgery
  • Ranked 29 in pediatric urology

Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital — State rank 3, regional rank 10, ranked national in four pediatric specialties:

  • Ranked 29 in pediatric diabetes and endocrinology
  • Ranked 40 in pediatric gastroenterology and GI surgery
  • Ranked 38 in pediatric nephrology
  • Ranked 49 in pediatric neurology and neurosurgery

Children's Hospital at Montefiore — State rank 3, regional rank 12, ranked national in three pediatric specialties:

  • Ranked 43 in pediatric diabetes and endocrinology
  • Ranked 28 in pediatric gastroenterology and GI surgery
  • Ranked 33 in pediatric nephrology

Hassenfeld Children's Hospital at NYU Langone — State rank 3, regional rank 12, ranked national in three pediatric specialties:

  • Ranked 14 in pediatric cardiology and heart surgery
  • Ranked 34 in pediatric neonatology
  • Ranked 45 in pediatric pulmonology and lung surgery

The rankings included the top 10 Honor Roll,

Rounding out those Honor Roll pediatric medical centers were Boston Children’s Hospital, Texas Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Children’s National Hospital (Washington, D.C.), Nationwide Children’s Hospital (Columbus, Ohio), UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Rady Children’s Hospital (San Diego) and Johns Hopkins Children’s Center (Baltimore).
